01Positioning
How does an indoor positioning system work?
Satellite signals don’t reach indoors, so position is worked out from the radio signals on site. We choose the method per site: AETHER, ML fingerprinting on WiFi, BLE or 5G NR signals; SIRIUS, BLE multilateration from several gateways hearing a tag; or anchor lookup with BLE beacons at known points. Outdoors, devices report their own GNSS coordinates. Every position ends up on the same Orion SPACE map.
What hardware do I need to install?
It depends on the principle. Fingerprinting reuses the WiFi already on site but needs a site survey and model first. Anchor lookup needs BLE beacons. Gateway multilateration needs gateways plus tags on people or assets. Outdoors, GNSS/LTE devices are used. During the site survey we work out the combination with the least hardware that still meets your needs.
What’s the difference between BLE and WiFi positioning?
WiFi positioning is usually fingerprinting: devices scan existing access points, so no extra hardware, but a survey and model come first, and the output is a continuous track. BLE positioning comes in two opposite forms: beacons on site that devices scan (no model, fast rollout, zone-level positions), or gateways that listen to broadcasting tags. So “BLE” alone doesn’t define a solution; you need to know which kind.
Can phones or devices we already own be located?
Yes. Phones, rugged PDAs and wearables that can scan WiFi or BLE can act as positioning devices; what works best depends on the device model and the site.
What if we need UWB or RFID?
We work with UWB and RFID partners. If your site needs higher precision, or RFID-style use cases such as access control or inventory counts, get in touch and we’ll assess a joint solution.
02Platform & integration
Can it run on-premises? Does data leave the site?
Yes. The Enterprise Edition runs on your own servers so data never leaves the site, which suits high-security facilities such as fabs. If you’d rather not run servers, the Cloud Edition is hosted by us.
Can it connect to our existing systems?
Yes. A REST API provides positions and events, WebSocket pushes updates in real time, and alerts can be forwarded to access control, security or existing systems via webhook, configured by your administrator.
What alerts does the platform raise?
Seven: zone entry, zone exit, dwelling too long, SOS, a sensor reading out of range (with hysteresis so it doesn’t flap), low battery and device offline. Alerts are graded by severity and show whether they’ve recovered.
Which languages does the interface support?
Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English, with a dark theme.
03Pricing & rollout
How is an indoor positioning system priced?
It’s an annual, all-in service in four tiers by floor area and tracked objects, from NT$100,000 a year, covering standard installation, the Orion SPACE platform and a year of support. Very large sites such as airports and metro systems, or custom integrations, get an enterprise quote after a site survey. Final quotes follow a survey and requirements review.
How is floor area counted?
Floor area is the total across all floors. For example, three floors of 2,000 m² count as 6,000 m².
What does a rollout involve?
Four stages: discovery (what to track, where, and which systems to connect), site survey (assess the radio environment and choose the principle), build and launch (install hardware, survey and model, import floor plans, open the platform), then operate and improve (keep watching positioning quality as the site changes).
Where has it been deployed?
More than 100 sites across Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand, including Singapore’s international airport, metro systems, major rail stations, semiconductor fabs and science parks.
